SLICC News...

SLICC's first comedy event at the Crown House was a great success.

Although a couple of comedians unavoidably drop out at the last minute, our remaining acts excelled themselves and there was an enthusiastic contribution at the open mic so the laughs carried on beyond 10:30. Peter Perke's highly original performance as a cheesy 1970's seaside bingo caller was pure delight and perfect for Spring in St Leonards-on-Sea. Not only did he have an ancient bingo machine on stage, with prizes to match, but he also has some great material and a wonderful singing voice. Peter was supported by Jean Kelly, Lulu, Suzi Payton, Kim and compere Steve LeSqueeze with open mics from Michelle, Anita and Kim Number 3.

There were plenty of new faces in the audience as well as many from our regular fan base. The word is definately spreading and fans are really appreciative of the more nervous newcomers as well as the established professional acts.

Thanks are due to the management at the Crown House who made us feel welcome, promoted the event well and built a great stage especially for us. Both bars were open, a comedy special food menu was laid on and the audience certainly appreciated the extra space in a famous building on the St Leonards sea front. The reliable SLICC formula was still apparent, though, and the entertainment value remained high.

SLICC is also having a special event at 8pm on Friday 22nd May at the Crown House.  The headliner will be Shazia Mirza who is a highly regarded performer on the UK comedy circuit, is frequently asked to appear on BBC TV and radio and also performs in America.

NEW VENUE In response to our growing popularity, SLICC is relaocating to a bigger venue. The Crown House is an historical building in a great location on St Leonards sea front with a large function room. The Crown House serves bar snacks, has a well stocked bar and there is plenty of free parking nearby.

SLICC is also inviting local people who want to get involved with sound engineering, lighting, video production, banner production, sound recording and, of course, comedy.  SLICC is keen to discuss any proposals to collaborate in projects which engage with, and offer opportunities for, people in our community.
